Mendix Team Lead
Mendix Team Lead is responsible for leading a multidisciplinary team in designing, developing, and delivering Mendix-based applications. This role ensures adherence to best practices, drives technical excellence, supports agile delivery, and acts as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and the development team. The Mendix Team Lead provides both technical leadership and team management, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and with production-grade quality that remains actively used in daily business operations.
Roles and Responsibilities
Team Leadership and Management
- Lead, mentor, and coach Mendix developers, business engineers, and supporting team members.
- Coordinate daily activities, sprint planning, workload management, and timely delivery.
- Drive continuous improvement within the development team.
- Conduct code and performance reviews and identify skill development needs.
- Build a high-performing team culture focused on collaboration, quality, and technical excellence.
Technical Leadership
- Define and enforce development standards covering architecture, security, performance, reusability, and auditing.
- Design, review, and approve solution architectures, complex domain models, security models, and advanced microflows and nanoflows.
- Lead productization of reusable Mendix modules, widgets, and solution accelerators.
- Guide systematic use of Mendix Building Blocks to ensure UI consistency and enterprise design standards.
- Enforce strong documentation discipline including clean code, in-app documentation, and complete client handover deliverables.
- Lead Mendix Native mobile app delivery with focus on offline sync, performance, secure local data handling, and mobile deployment.
- Lead integration design and implementation including REST, SOAP, Azure AD, OIDC, and API best practices.
- Ensure high-quality deliverables through rigorous code reviews and testing oversight.
- Drive DevOps, BizDevOps, and SecDevOps practices including logging, monitoring, tracing, and auditing.
- Provide hands-on technical support for complex or high-priority issues.
Project Delivery and Governance
- Own end-to-end delivery of enterprise Mendix applications from requirements through production.
- Manage CI/CD pipelines, Git branching strategies, environment configurations, and rollback procedures.
- Collaborate with Product Owners and Business Analysts to translate requirements into technical solutions.
- Ensure adherence to agile methodologies while tracking progress and risks.
- Manage release planning, version control, and deployments.
- Facilitate solution design workshops with architects, infrastructure, and security teams.
- Ensure compliance with security, performance, scalability, UX, accessibility, and audit requirements.
Collaboration and Communication
- Act as the primary communication bridge between business stakeholders and the delivery team.
- Lead client-facing technical discussions, workshops, and status updates.
- Provide accurate estimations, risk assessments, and technical planning.
- Report project status and risks to senior management.
Quality Assurance and Compliance
- Ensure security, compliance, and performance standards are met.
- Promote automated testing and CI/CD adoption.
- Ensure documentation completeness and accuracy.
- Oversee application lifecycle management to maintain production-grade stability.
Requirements
Qualification and Education
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in IT, Electronics, or a relevant engineering discipline.
- Mendix Expert Certification.
Minimum Experience and Skills
- Minimum 5 years of Mendix development experience, including at least 2 years in a lead role.
- Proven delivery of enterprise Mendix applications in production.
- Strong experience with:
- Mendix domain modeling, microflows, nanoflows, workflows, and reusable modules
- Mendix security including role-based access and audit logging
- Mobile applications with offline sync and app store deployment
- Integrations and APIs using REST and SOAP
- CI/CD pipelines, Git branching, and automated deployments
- Mendix Cloud, Azure, OpenShift, and on-premise deployments
- Java and JavaScript for custom actions
- SQL for performance optimization
- Docker and Kubernetes
- Azure DevOps or Jira
- Experience with networking including certificates, firewalls, and proxies.
- Experience leading Mendix version upgrades.
- Comfortable using AI tools such as Copilot or ChatGPT to improve productivity and documentation.
